I was designated driver last year as it was my turn. In my circle, the driver each year also buys the drinks. It is painful on the wallet, but it does give you the opportunity to get some revenge as the participants must all drink the drinks that you buy. I sent three of my more vocal friends home last year preparing for the worst hangovers they would ever experience. The tab cost me 518 dollars.
