Default The real clock management story.

Yes it's a little late to post this because the season end of a year ago (or so it seems). But I do not recall during the superbowl or even on this forum, the announcers or anyone else mentioning how badly Coughlin owned Belichick in clock management.

We all recall how much of a big deal was made about Ahmad Bradshaw not stopping at the 1 and going into the endzone. What many don't realize was that the TD was way more important at that time than forcing the patriots to use another timeout. Why? Because the patriots already wasted a timeout on a frivolous challenge.

Manningham was clearly in bouns on that long pass. But hurrying up field forced Belichick to challenge the play and waste a timeout. Some of you may not have realized it when it was happening or even by now. And it seems that it went over the announcers heads as well.

Coughlin schooled BB badly!!!

And it is for this among other reasons that I have to now consider Coughlin to be a better head coach.

I really don't think so. The Giants were down with little time left, they wanted to hurry up the field anyway. The Pats after giving up a big play would want to slow things down to reset and rest the Defense,(something we failed to against them) might as well try to get a call your way. It also gives them a longer TO.

The Giants did score with a minute felt on the clock, but there was no way of knowing that at the time of that catch. It's not like they marched up and down the field all night. Aside from that, in slow motion replay it was clear he was in, but at full speed it could have gone either way... and the Pats have been known to get a call their way.

Another time-out wouldn't have made much of a difference, unless their guys caught the ball.

So you're saying that BB was willing to call a defensive timeout that late in the superbowl. That makes no sense. And as far as not knowing what kind of situation the patrtiots would be in if the Giants scored a TD...Teams in the Giants' situation are completely capable of putting their opponent in the situation that the patriots were put in at will. This happens almost every Sunday and it's far from a random coincidence. But aside from that, they knew that the patriots had two timeouts left. Rushing to the line left them with only one timeout. The extra timeout is a big deal because it's worth about 30 seconds on the game clock. It also forces the Giants to cover the middle of the field for several more plays, leaving the sidelines more open. You've just demonstrated how brilliant of a move it was by disagreeing with me.

In either case I think you're arguing for the sake of arguing.
