I have a good friend who has two 64 nova's and there both worked for Racing in a quarter mile. His first one does the Quarter in the 9's @ about 150mph, which is very fast, and his newest one which is still being worked on, is expected to be in the 7's in the Quarter mile @ about 200mph. Its two serious cars. These cars look like the original cars at a glance, but have big slicks and are only a few inches from the ground. When you take a close look you realize the hundreds of hours spent working on it to make it what it is. NHRA is a great sport for fans of speed and older cars.

My favorite is a 71' Olds 442 - Convertible. Blue with White Top. I do have a 85' Olds Cutlass Supreme - V-8, 4-barrel sitting in the garage (35k Miles). Not sure what to do with that. It's not really a head turner.

There's nothing I like more than 50's-60's-70's cars. The 80's were dismal and things went downhill from there.
If I had the money, I'd get a nicely restored Charger, Challenger, 'Cuda, Camaro, Mustang, etc and drive it until the wheels fell off. They just put a smile on my face the way modern cars don't.

When I was 16 I bought, in the same day, a 67 Camaro( project car) for $500 and a 69 firebird 6cyl 3 on the tree for I think $1000. The plan was to drive the firebird while restoring the Camaro. Somehow that changed to building a 350 vette engine for the Firebird. That car flew. I drove it through the summer, then on the first day back from Christmas vacation I hit black ice while passing the school bus on the way to school. Spun backwards into a telephone pole and took the pole into the back seat and snapped the pole. No seatbelt. Down to the chrome wood steering wheel that bent in my hand there was not a part of that car that was not broken. They said I should have died but i actually went home from the hospital that night. Stupid kid was I. That was it for my hotrod days. If I had time, money and a place to keep it I'd love a mid 60's Chevelle.
My father was building a 37 Ford coupe into a hot rod the way he raced them in the day. Original motor, built, 6 pack... unfortunately he had a stroke a few years back and it will stay in his garage forever unfinished and sadly it's pretty close to done. |
