I just saw the news. Without a doubt he had a legendary life and career in the NFL. Putting the "NFL-Rivalry" aside, he truly did everything and emerged as an icon to this league. RIP

Default Raiders owner Al Davis dies at 82

USA TODAY
October 8, 2011

The team's website states they will issue a statement later on Saturday.

Davis was once the most powerful owner in pro football. He got his clout by using his own abrasive style and sending out his lawyers to the courtroom. Aside from winning three Super Bowls, his biggest victory came in 1982 when a six-person jury sided with the Oakland Raiders in their anti-trust suit against the National Football League. The verdict, upheld when the Supreme Court refused to hear the case, allowed the Raiders to move to Los Angeles without approval by the NFL owners.

I understand football wouldn't be the same without him, and he's one of the best ever but he didnt have a clue how to handle modern day football and build a right team within the past 5-10 years...(yes they made it to the SB once and lost).

There are A LOT of raider fans for some reason here in central-southern NJ. All of them are honestley excited that finnaly there team might actually be really good one of these next few years and for a long time now that davis has passed. Raider fans as sad as it is to see someone pass, are extremeley happy for once...

And that's the problem with Raider fans. Al Davis pu together the winningest team in the NFL (no other team has a better win percentage than the Raiders over the last 40+ years). Sure, they've been a joke in recent years but that doesn't take away from everything he did for his team, players and the league as a whole.

Sadly, if there is a team that should hate the Pats more than any other (outside of the division)...it's the Raiders. Their fortunes turned after the infamous "Tuck Rule" game. The Pats went on to become what we know today, and so did the Raiders.

Cheering the death of someone who meant so much to the game as we know, it is flat out classless. R.I.P. Mr. Davis.

Has anyone actually read or heard any Raiders fans conducting themselves in the fashion described by Chrebetboy? I haven't, and of course there's no links to where he claims this was occuring. I just have a hard time believing that any significant number of Raiders fans exist anywhere in this country and are rejoicing over this mans death.

We will have to let Chrebretboy clarify this but I think he is saying they are happy about their winning streak, not his passing. RIP Al Davis.

Perhaps they way it was written by CB, just isnt clear on his intent of message.
