Default Mike Pennel claimed from Green Bay off waviers

I read somewhere that the Jets have added him to the roster. If true, this is not in my opinion of a good move. He never looked that good to me when he payed and was suspended twice by Green Bay for substance abuse. If he was a great player and it appeared that he got cleaned up I'd say give him a shot. But he never looked great to me and there is no way to be certain that he got off whatever he was on. Feel free to chime in guys if you have something to offer. Maybe I got bad info but if not the rebuild is not going well already.

I'm not too bothered by the signing. Pernell isn't going to cost much money. Really finished 2015 strong. He got busted for Marijuana and served a 4 game suspension. If I remember, his second 4 game suspension was for a diluted sample. I remember it being leaked and some discussion about a random test being diluted. He has overcome alot, kidney cancer, was undrafted ,and stuck in Green Bay. Dean Lowry emerging in the last 4 games while Pernell was suspended really is why he was released.
He will give us needed depth if hehas managed to get himself together. It makes releasing Sheldon easier and gives us a back up NT which we don't have and a rotational DE. He actually would have been the second highest graded player on our D last year at 79.9 behind only Williams 86.4 . He nearly doubled Wilkerson 44.1 grade. He is really a low risk, financially, high reward signing. He really has made major strides on the field and would be a first or second round pick which we get free. If he works out, great. If not. Doesn't cost us anything.

Well, he's only 25 so if he has put his substance abuse problem behind him you might be right about him adding depth. If he hasn't put it behind him he won't be worth much suspended. And, I agree that the price is reasonable. I still wasn't that impressed by his overall play though. Guess we'll have to wait and see what he becomes as a Jet.

If he hasn't put his issues behind him, he will be off the roster and likely out of the league. It is sad to see a guy waste his opportunity.
Bronx Tale. Robert DeNiro
Lorenzo: "The saddest thing in life is wasted talent."
I'm just on a roll. May have to pop in the Blu-ray and watch the movie tonight.
