Default Franchise QB

I have a crazy feeling...but I could see Dane Evans becoming our franchise QB. We just signed him undrafted. He is very similar to drew brees - he has a ton of college experience and broke records left and right. Big arm as well. The knock against him is he is 6'1 barely.

Our OC is formerly the Saints WR coach....Not to mention here you got a QB with a chip on his shoulder and all the skills to be a big game player.

My crazy prediction is Dane beats out Petty, Hack, and McCown.

You could be correct about this because I also heard that they signed him. Whether he wins the starting job or not he is good enough to compete for the job which would force the other QBs on the roster to improve and and that can't hurt either.

Would be awesome if he wins it and keeps it - could add to the brady 7th round story, the 4th round dak, the russel wilson 3rd round...

From Gang Green Nation Article:

"Finally we come to a player who the Jets threw into the mix as a UDFA. Dane Evans was a 3 year starter at Tulsa, known as a guy with a strong arm and extremely impressive deep ball accuracy. He's a touch on the smaller side 6'0 and he does come from a system where he almost exclusively plays out of the shotgun in a one read offense. He did throw 32 TD to 12 INT this year while adding 4 TD's on the ground. He has some mobility within the pocket, but don't expect him to be busting 20+ yard runs on a regular basis. He does possess a short, quick release and good internal clock to get rid of the football, and as you can see...he can fire that football in there in a hurry. NFL.com named him as one of their sleepers"

I hope you're right!.. I don't care who it is. I just want a franchise QB... He walked into the perfect situation to win a job as well. All young unproven guys with a mentor. No matter who it is, we will have to endure the growing pains.. I just hope it ends up with finding a guy to be the QB for next 10 years

Right on! Quite honestly I would be fine watching a rookie from day 1. I really dont want them to waste time on McCown. Besides if we go from day 1 and they dont like the guy by mid season you switch to another rookie and give him a shot. This way 2018 you know what you have and if the franchise QB is on the roster

Don't we want UnKnown to get the punctured lung rather than one of our young guys? You can't fairly evaluate a QB if he's running for his life.

I'm all for it.. I'm sick of the bandaid treatment.. pick a guy, give him a shot and go from there.

Mel Kiper has the Jets going 2 - 14 and with a legit change for the #1 pick next year.

In all honestly, the NFL didn't give the JETS any favors with this year schedule: Raiders, Falcons, Denver, Chiefs, Saints & Chargers? All good teams.

Jets can easily go 4 - 12. Lets use this year as a tryout for all the QBs and draft out STUD next year!!

Next years draft has two very promising prospects in Darnold and Josh Allen. I think both will be very good NFL QBs.

Unfortunately.. the jets will prob go 5-11 or 6-10.. winning meaningless games and picking in the back end of the top 10 again.. just what history says lol
