The food in the US can be quite good, but the problem is the declining number of small family owned restaurants here, which is the trademark of Italy. Those who visit Italy, Rome in particular, return home raving about the food there. Outside of a few areas, New York, San Francisco, Chicago and very few other places, you can only find restaurant chains which offer a generic, neutered version of fine ethnic cooking.
