As New York Jets fans brace for a quarterback competition that threatens to burn deep into August, the Jets offensive coordinator is open to ending the drama much sooner.

Marty Mornhinweg told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News on Tuesday he'd rather it be over by mid-June, after the Jets wrap organized team activities. As for the public perception that Mark Sanchez versus Geno Smith will remain a news topic until the end of days, he isn't buying it.

"We don't care what the prevailing thought is," Mornhinweg said. "We only care about our competition here. ... Common sense tells you that you hope it's quick, but this is going to be a full-blown competition. Period."

Mornhinweg emphasized that if Smith or Sanchez clearly owns the day through OTAs, the Jets are prepared to name their starter before training camp.

"Oh, absolutely," Mornhinweg said. "Sure. Absolutely."

It won't be easy for the Jets to make a quick choice. No matter what the team says about "competition," the Jets desperately need a fresh start under center. This isn't Sanchez's job to lose, it's Smith's to win, but the rookie is unlikely to separate himself from a fifth-year veteran -- even this fifth-year veteran -- in a string of practices against his own green-clad teammates.

Marty is talking about a perfect world. Let the man dream.

There were a few mentions on Espn New York recently about the Jets possible interest in signing another veteran Qb to replace Garrard. Two guys who have crossed the radar are former Eagles who played under Marty M: Vince Young and Trent Edwards. Vince http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/...89/vince-young is the guy who called the Eagles the "dream team" and it's a term that didn't sit well with Eagles management. To me he is kind of similar to Tim. A great college Qb and a better runner than thrower. Can he run a standard offense or does it have to be tweaked for him to succeed. Also he didn't get along with a very respected coach in Jeff Fisher who told the Tenn. owner: either him or me. It turned out both of them left. There have also been other problems and he is presently unemployed. He signed with Buffalo last season but got cut before the season began. On the other hand Trent Edwards http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/.../trent-edwards is a guy who wasn't expected to make the Eagles team last season but had a good training camp and final exhibition game against us. So he made the team as the no. 3 but hardly played even though Vick was injured. They cut him last month. If Marty likes either of these guys why not sign them to a non-guaranteed contract with no upfront money or as little as possible. There are others available but not much. The Jets could wait until pre-season cuts but usually the Qbs are in the last cut. You would think they'd want a Qb in earlier than that to learn the system and play in pre-season games.

He usually bolts, says revis taught him he should stick around and now that its time to be a leader, he says its time to embrace it. I feel he's gotta be a leader on defense if we wanna step up our production. He's also been working with Kyle Wilson and thinks this will be his break out year. I hope so. He plays decent in the slot and if he can look back and get better with his hands could really be a ballhawk in the slot. Cromartie, Milner, and Wilson could be formidable and the biggest strength of our team. It's not even a reach to say Antonio Cromartie is the best player on the team when you think about it so I'm glad to see him embracing the leadership role

Hey guys. My names Ahmet and I'm a sports management major. I also played four years at defensive tackle for the university of new haven. I broke my leg my senior season. I'm gettin back into the swing of things now about to start my internship with the nj jackals baseball team. But I'm also looking for a part time job as well. I prefer sports but at this point anything to work around my schedule and get money to pay my loans, hospital bills and just for cash. If anyone knows of a job or works somewhere or owns a business that is hiring or looking for someone please let me know. I am not a 4.0 student or perfect for that matter but what I am is very hard worker and passionate with knowledge from both the classroom and the field. I've gained valuable knowledge with my studies and but also learned many things playing football that can't be learned in a classroom. Things like teamwork, commitment, time management, and leadership. You can be certain that I bring 110% to the table every time, everyday in everything I do. I will not be outworked. Please help a brother out. Thanks guys

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos have moved on, even if their fans haven't.
That includes Rahim Moore, the safety whose big blunder led to Denver's heart-wrenching loss in the playoffs four months ago.

The Broncos gather Monday for their first full practice since that fateful, frigid night in Denver when Moore allowed Jacoby Jones' 70-yard touchdown catch from Joe Flacco in the final minute of regulation in the divisional game the Baltimore Ravens won in double overtime on their way to winning the Super Bowl.

Although there was plenty of blame to go around, Moore took the brunt of public criticism along with coach John Fox for his decision to have Peyton Manning take a knee afterward and take his chances in overtime.

Many fans wondered if Moore could ever play in Denver again after his gaffe, akin to Bill Buckner's ball-through-the-legs moment in the 1986 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets.

The Broncos, however, are sticking with the third-year pro who remains the starter at free safety.

"I think he's over it; I think we're all over it, you know," Denver defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio told The Associated Press. "I think we all look back and see things that we could have done better. We also look back with a great deal of pride in what we accomplished. We played some very good defense and he was central to that. So, we want to feel good about what went well. We want to feel the sting of what went bad. And we want to get ready to be better this year."

The Broncos' stars all stumbled in that 38-35 double-overtime loss to the Ravens: Manning had three turnovers, including an interception that led to the winning field goal; Champ Bailey got burned repeatedly; Ryan Clady was playing with a torn rotator cuff that would require surgery and wasn't anything close to his usual dominant self as Manning's blindside protector; and Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil combined for just one sack.

All those poor performances were overshadowed, however, by the many mystifying mistakes that Moore, their second-year free safety, made on Jones' 70-yard touchdown catch from Flacco with 31 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Moore lined up too shallow and allowed Jones to blow past him after leaving cornerback Tony Carter, who failed to jam at the line of scrimmage, in his wake. Then, instead of going for the tackle, Moore tried for the interception on Flacco's 50-yard high-arcing heave but mistimed his jump and fell down, which prevented Carter from catching Moore as he pranced his way into the end zone.

Moore took the blame after the game and promised to make good, saying, "I'm going to keep my head high and next time the opportunity comes, I'm just going to make it for my team. I'll just make the play."

Moore is sure to face heightened scrutiny from fans this year and how he handles the pressure will go a long way in determining if he recovers from the big blunder to have a good year in 2013.

"I feel like that's the way with the rest of us, he's no different. It may be more publicized, there may be more people interested in it," Del Rio said. "In terms of us internally here, we all feel like there's things we can do better and we're all looking to grow. I put him in the same category. I think he had a really solid year last year after a disappointing first year and he should be able to build on that and be better this year."

Providing he can get over it, of course.

"Rahim's focus is on getting better from a year ago," Fox said. "And there wasn't one play. It was a whole season. He made great, great progress a year ago from his rookie year and we anticipate him to do that again. He's a very talented young man."

Moore hasn't addressed the media en masse yet. That should come Monday when reporters get the chance to view the first day of the Broncos' OTAs in its entirety. The team has denied requests for 1-on-1 interviews except for one he gave The Denver Post recently in which Moore said he went right back to work in a matter of days after his massive mistake.

"Yeah, sometimes hard work is the best tonic when you feel the sting of something," Del Rio said.

Moore has the support of everybody at team headquarters, from Bailey to executive vice president John Elway, who was asked during a recent conference call with season-ticket holders why he didn't address safety in the offseason.

"Obviously, what's stuck in peoples' minds about Rahim" was the playoff foul-up, "but he made tremendous strides from Year 1 to Year 2," Elway said. "And I think hopefully he makes those same strides. He really had a good year last year and we want to watch him to continue to grow. Safety-wise, we feel pretty good."

Bailey said Moore's mental state has been right ever since players first gathered for offseason work this spring.

"Let's go try again, that's pretty much his mentality," Bailey said. "I don't think it affected him as much as people think. He got so much better last year. I can't believe he's not going to improve this year. People want to talk about one play. But you can't decide about someone on one play."

Miller said nobody in the locker room holds Moore any more accountable for the playoff loss than they do themselves.

"Rahim made a few key tackles that day. He was all over the place. It was just a football folly," Miller said. "I don't blame Rahim. I blame me and Elvis: 70 yards to go, we know they're going to pass the ball. That's why they bring me and Elvis to close the game out and neither of us got to the quarterback. I took it hard."

Dumervil signed with the Ravens in an ironic offseason twist, and he'll make a return with his new teammates when the Super Bowl champs open the season at Denver on Sept. 5.

"This is a new season. We've moved on. The whole league has moved one," Fox said. "Everybody is 0-
0 right now. So, what you did last year doesn't mean anything, good or bad. It's what you do this year."

One slip...on mistake...you have to move on. The Broncs and the Ravens were evenly matched. It was down to who makes the first mistake.

Underclassmen are denoted with an asterisk (*).

1. Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina (6-6, 268, 4.65)*: It is difficult to describe Clowney and not fall into the trap of hyperbole. He has more than lived up to his billing as the top prep prospect in the country in his first two seasons with the Gamecocks, however, and boasts the skillset to rank among the truly elite prospects of his generation.

2. Jake Matthews, OT, Texas A&M (6-5, 305, 5.14): Luke Joeckel received most of the attention at Texas A&M, but there are some who believe Matthews (the son of Hall of Famer, Bruce) will wind up the better prospect. If Matthews handles the jump to left tackle as smoothly as scouts anticipate, a top-five selection is a virtual lock.

3. Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville (6-3, 220, 4.65)*: Bridgewater has dominated the Big East in his first two seasons and eased any concerns over his level of competition with an MVP performance in a Sugar Bowl win against an extremely talented Florida defense.

4. Taylor Lewan, T, Michigan (6-7, 310, 5.04): Possessing an incredible combination of size and athletic ability, Lewan has earned comparisons to former Michigan standout Jake Long throughout his career with the Wolverines.

5. Stephon Tuitt, DL, Notre Dame (6-5, 303, 4.89)*: Overshadowed by Manti Te'o and even nose guard Louis Nix III a season ago, Tuitt's length, power and surprising quickness will ultimately earn him the highest grade from NFL scouts.

6. Tajh Boyd, QB, Clemson (6-1, 225, 4.68): Every team is looking for "the next Russell Wilson." In terms of his size, poise, mobility and arm talent, Boyd is one of the few quarterbacks to warrant comparison to the Seahawks' young standout.

7. Cyrus Kouandjio, T, Alabama (6-5, 312, 5.12)*: Some questioned the wisdom of moving Barrett Jones from left tackle (where he'd won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the SEC's best lineman) to center in 2012. The reason for the switch was Kouandjio, a physically-blessed athlete who some have compared to former Redskins Pro Bowler Chris Samuels, the No. 3 overall pick out of Alabama in 2000.

8. Anthony Barr, OLB, UCLA (6-4, 238, 4.73): As the No. 5 pick of the 2013 NFL draft, Ziggy Ansah showed just what a breakout season can do for a pass-rusher. Barr, a former running back, exploded onto the Pac-12 scene last year to the tune of 21.5 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks. If he can duplicate that success as a senior, he could wind up in the top 10, himself.

9. Marqise Lee, WR, Southern Cal (6-0, 195, 4.51)*: The reigning Biletnikoff winner as the nation's top receiver, Lee possesses extraordinary agility and burst, making him a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

10. Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma St. (6-0, 190, 4.35): The Cowboys versatile shut down corner-return specialist will be the next line of game changing defensive backs making the leap to the next level

11. Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State (5-11, 190, 4.42)*: The Buckeyes used to churn out first-round defensive backs annually. Roby, who possesses spectacular straight-line speed and quick hands, will renew the tradition.

12. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington (6-6, 267, 4.75)*: A two-sport star for the Huskies (football, basketball), ASJ provides a unique combination of size, overall athleticism and ball-skills, making him a true mismatch for opponents. He was suspended indefinitely by coach Steve Sarkisian in the spring following a DUI arrest, but is expected to play this fall.

13. Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU (6-3, 235, 4.67): While Ziggy Ansah received most of the hype at BYU, Van Noy was far and away the more consistent defender, registering an eye-popping 22 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, six forced fumbles, two interceptions and two blocked kicks. What can he do for an encore now that opponents will be focusing on him?

14. Antonio Richardson, OT, Tennessee (6-6, 332, 5.16)*: Nicknamed "Tiny," Richardson and his game proved anything but last season at left tackle for the Vols. Richardson remains a bit raw but was one of the few tackles to keep Clowney off his quarterback.

15. Jason Verrett, CB, TCU (5-10, 182, 4.49): Verrett lacks the size so en vogue in today's NFL, but agility and ball skills never go out of style for cornerbacks. Verrett led the Big 12 with 22 passes defended and six interceptions in 2012.

16. Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson (6-1, 200, 4.49)*: It was Watkins, not USC's Lee, who was the more impressive pass-catcher as a freshman, but injuries and suspension led to a disappointing sophomore campaign for the Clemson star while Lee won the Biletnikoff Award. Long and athletic, expect Watkins to re-emerge in 2013.

17. Louis Nix III, DT, Notre Dame (6-3, 326, 5.17)*: Possessing broad shoulders, a thick lower half and surprisingly quick feet, Nix III is a classic run-stuffer with enough burst and determination to threaten the pocket, as well.

18. C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama (6-2, 232, 4.56): Athletic and instinctive, Mosley is a true three-down linebacker capable of making plays against the run and pass. He's among the best all-around football players in what appears to be a much stronger 2014 draft class, but his lack of elite size could keep him out of the top 10.

19. Colt Lyerla, TE, Oregon (6-5, 245, 4.59)*: Overshadowed a bit at Oregon but shows a combination of size and overall athletic ability that has earned comparisons from a number of veteran Pac-12 observers to former Arizona Wildcat Rob Gronkowski.

20. Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida (6-0, 185, 4.47)*: An explosive athlete with a knack for making big plays at cornerback and on special teams, Purifoy is expected to see significant time at receiver in 2013, as well.

21. William Sutton, DE, Arizona State (6-1, 288, 4.79): Sutton is undeniably smaller than scouts would prefer, but he uses his natural leverage advantage well, slicing through gaps to terrorize opponents. Sutton led the Pac-12 in both tackles for loss (23.5) and sacks (13) in 2012 and was voted the conference's most dominant defensive lineman -- over Carolina Panthers first-round pick Star Lotulelei, among others.

22. David Yankey, OT, Stanford (6-5, 302, 5.08)*: Scouts love Yankey's upside and versatility. He won the Morris Trophy as the Pac-12's top offensive lineman in his first season at left tackle ... as a sophomore.

23. A.J. Johnson, ILB, Tennessee (6-2, 240, 4.73)*: For all of the talk a year ago about Manti Te'o, Arthur Brown or Kevin Minter, for my money, the most impressive inside linebacker in the country was Johnson. He led the SEC with 138 stops while also contributing six touchdowns as Tennessee's short-yardage back.

24. Adrian Hubbard, OLB, Alabama (6-5, 252, 4.76)*: They don't rebuild at Alabama, they simply reload, and Hubbard is the next star on defense to keep an eye on. The lanky pass-rusher recorded 10 tackles for loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles in a breakout sophomore campaign and could be on the verge of much bigger things.

25. David Fales, QB, San Jose State (6-3, 220, 4.88): Fales signed with SJSU as a lightly recruited JUCO prospect, but turned heads by leading the country with a 72.5 percent completion percentage. His anticipation and accuracy make up for less than ideal size and arm strength.

26. Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State (6-3, 212, 4.79): While not as polished as older brother David was entering his senior season, Derek has the frame, confidence and rocket arm to shoot up draft boards with a big final campaign for the Bulldogs.

27. James Hurst, OT, North Carolina (6-6, 310, 5.43): Entering his fourth season as the Tar Heels' left tackle, Hurst won't have to worry about being overshadowed this year by guard Jonathan Cooper, and therefore will begin to get the first-round buzz his game deserves.

28. Trent Murphy, DE/OLB, Stanford (6-4, 261, 4.80): Murphy registered 18 tackles for loss and 10 sacks to lead the Cardinal in both categories a season ago. The stout, broad-shouldered athlete may project best as a defensive end rather than as a stand-up linebacker for some.

29. Ka'Deem Carey, RB, Arizona (5-10, 200, 4.53)*: Carey led the country with 1,929 yards a season ago, demonstrating vision, burst and elusiveness. If he can clear up concerns about his maturity, Carey could overtake former first-round pick Trung Canidate (selected No. 31 overall by the Rams in 2000) as the highest drafted runner in school history.

30. Morgan Breslin, DE/OLB, Southern Cal (6-2, 250, 4.67): Breslin exploded for 13 sacks in his first season with the Trojans after signing as a highly regarded JUCO prospect. Breslin's burst and tenacity could make him every bit as intriguing to 3-4 teams looking for a standup linebacker as 4-3 teams in need of a defensive end.

31. Jackson Jeffcoat, DE/OLB, Texas (6-5, 245, 4.67): The son of former Cowboys standout Jim Jeffcoat, Jackson has the length and athleticism to earn a first-round grade, but durability is a concern.

32. Brandon Coleman, R, Rutgers (6-5, 220, 4.59)*: Towering over most cornerbacks, Coleman is an ideal red-zone target with sneaky downfield speed. His 10 receiving touchdowns in 2012 tied the school's single-season record. Don't be surprised when he breaks the record as a junior.

"It's one of the things where it's zero-tolerance with stuff like that," Colon said. "It's sad. Mike could have been huge for us.

He wasn't around a lot, so I didn't really get to see him a lot. For the most part, I was kind of anticipating seeing how he was going to do in OTAs.

A lot of guys were upset. They knew the type of ballplayer (he was)."

The Jets guaranteed Goodson nearly $2 million two months ago, so we're not quite sure this is the end.

But it wouldn't be a surprise if it was. Goodson faces jail time and almost certainly a suspension.
