Pack get a third round pick.... if we made the playoffs a second..Super Bowl a first...
We could have traded my three legged Dog named Lucky to the Pack and still got ripped off

I understand that we need someone on defense right now but what about a big play WR. With all the big play WR'S coming maybe we should try and get one. Even if we have to trade up for one. We need someone to give us a spark on offense.Besides LEON WASHINGTON. we need a big threat tall WR.
Possible WR'S to draft:
Percy Harvin
Jeremy Maclin
Micheal Crabtree
THis would open the offensive playbook up so much more!
guy from mimai dolphions is free too
brett favre is stay with ny jets

we need a big, fast WR for sure.
Percy Harvin looks great
also a decent DE would make a huge change

I LOVE how everyone on here pee's and moans about how bad our defense is yet when talking draft everyone goes to the offense... GET A PASS RUSHER!!!! WR's are a dime a dozen in the draft..

The Jets have no franchise QB, in fact they don't have aything at all in the way of a proven NFL QB. You don't draft a WR without having the guy that runs the offense. Drafting a WR without a QB is like having desert without dinner. :rolleyes:

As enitcing as it is to get a big play WR, we need a pass rush.
Go defense, either DE or CB whatever is the best player available at the time. Draft value pick at our spots don't focus on only positions. That is how you get messed up. It's ok to have depth and truthfully I don't think we have much of that anywhere.

The Jets had a good pass rush until week 8 or 9, in fact I think we led the league in sacks. I don't think there's a guy in the draft that's going to come here and create a great pass rush. We could use a better cornerback, but I believe the lack of a Jets pass rush stemmed from a lack of imagination in defensive play calling in the second half of the year, and poor secondary play...

2009 NFL Draft
The 2009 NFL Draft is scheduled to take place in Radio City Music Hall in New York City on April 25 and 26, 2009.
Current draft order rules
Teams are grouped by regular-season record, regardless of playoff status, and sorted in reverse order.
No team moves outside its group, except that the winner of Super Bowl XLIII selects 32nd and the loser 31st, regardless of their records.
Teams that did not make the playoffs within each group select before teams that earned playoff berths.
For teams that did not make the playoffs within each group, remaining ties are broken by strength of schedule (SOS). A team's strength of schedule is the combined records of its opponents, including games played against the team in question, counting teams against which the team played two games. (Ties count as half a win.)
For teams that made the playoffs within each group, remaining ties are broken by how far each team advanced in the playoffs. Teams that lost in earlier rounds select before teams who lost in later rounds; teams that exit in the same round are ranked by strength of schedule.
If strength of schedule does not resolve a tie, division and/or conference tiebreakers are used whenever possible.
Any remaining ties are broken by a coin toss at the NFL Combine.
The teams are divided into groups. Within each group, the team that selects first in one round will select last in the next round, with all other teams moving up one spot.

Pre-draft trades
First round
Carolina to Philadelphia. Carolina traded its first-round selection in 2009, as well as its second-round (No. 43: traded to Minnesota and used to select safety Tyrell Johnson) and fourth-round (No. 109: used to select offensive guard Mike McGlynn) selections in 2008 to Philadelphia for the the first-round selection of Philadelphia in 2008 (No. 19: used to select offensive tackle Jeff Otah).[2]
Dallas to Detroit. Dallas traded its first-, third-, and sixth-round selections in 2009 to Detroit in exchange for wide receiver Roy Williams and a seventh-round selection in the 2010 draft.[3]
Second round
San Diego to New England. San Diego traded its second-round selection in 2009 and fifth-round selection in 2008 (No. 160: traded to Tampa Bay and used to select quarterback Josh Johnson) to New England for the first of New England's third-round selections in 2008 (No. 69: used to select running back Jacob Hester).[4]
Washington to Miami. Washington traded its second-round selection in 2009 and its sixth-round selection in 2010 to Miami for defensive end Jason Taylor.[5]
New Orleans to New York Giants. New Orleans traded its second-round and fifth-round selections to the New York Giants for tight end Jeremy Shockey.[6] If the Saints re-sign linebacker Jonathan Vilma before free agency begins on February 27, 2009, however, they would owe that second-round selection to the New York Jets, in which case the Giants instead would receive the Saints' first-round selection. See Jonathan Vilma trade below.
Third round
New York Jets to Green Bay. The New York Jets traded a conditional selection to Green Bay for quarterback Brett Favre. The selection became a third-round selection because Favre took the majority of the team's snaps at quarterback. This selection would have become a second- or first-round selection had Favre led the Jets to the playoffs.[7]
New Orleans to New York Jets. New Orleans traded its third-round selection to the Jets for linebacker Jonathan Vilma.[8] That selection rose from the fourth round because of Vilma's playing time in 2008. If the Saints re-sign Vilma before free agency begins on February 27, 2009, then the Saints would owe the Jets a second-round selection. The Saints have traded that second-round selection to the New York Giants as part of the Jeremy Shockey trade, however, so the Giants instead would get the Saints' first-round choice. Because of this, the Saints reportedly will wait until Vilma is a free agent to re-sign him.[9]
Cleveland to Dallas. Cleveland traded its third-round selection in 2009 (No. 69) to Dallas for Dallas' fourth-round selection in 2008 (No, 111: used to select tight end Martin Rucker).[10]
Dallas to Detroit. See above first-round trade for Roy Williams.
Fourth round
Detroit to Dallas. Detroit traded its fourth-round selection in 2009 and third-round selection in 2008 (No. 111: traded to Cleveland, see above trade for Martin Rucker) to Dallas for Dallas' 2008 third-round selection (No. 92: used to select defensive end Cliff Avril).[11]
Washington to New York Jets. Washington traded its fourth-round selection in 2009 to the Jets for guard Pete Kendall prior to the 2007 season. The selection changed from a fifth-round selection in 2008 because Kendall played 80 percent of the snaps for the Redskins in 2007.[12]
Fifth round
Oakland to Atlanta. Oakland traded its fifth-round selection in 2009 and a second-round selection in 2008 (No. 34: traded to Washington and used to select wide receiver Devin Thomas) to Atlanta for cornerback DeAngelo Hall.[13]
Cleveland to Philadelphia. Cleveland traded its fifth-round selection in 2009 to Philadelphia for Philadelphia's sixth-round selection in 2008 (No. 191: used to select wide receiver Paul Hubbard).[11]
New Orleans to New York Giants. See above second-round trade for Jeremy Shockey.
Tennessee to Dallas. The suspension of cornerback Pacman Jones on October 15, 2008 triggered a clause in his trade agreement that required Tennessee to give Dallas its fifth-round selection. Had Jones not been suspended, Dallas would have owed Tennessee a sixth-round selection.[14]
Seattle to Denver Seattle traded its fifth-round selection to Denver in return for wide receiver Keary Colbert.[15]
Sixth round
Miami to Dallas. Miami traded its sixth-round selection in 2009 and sixth-round selection in 2008 (No. 167: used to select linebacker Erik Walden) to Dallas for defensive tackle Jason Ferguson and Dallas' sixth-round selection (No. 195: used to select offensive guard Donald Thomas).[16]
Minnesota to Philadelphia. Minnesota traded its sixth-round selection to Philadelphia for quarterback Kelly Holcomb.[17]
New Orleans to Green Bay. New Orleans traded its sixth-round selection in 2009 to Green Bay for Green Bay's seventh-round selection in 2008 (No. 237: used to select wide receiver Adrian Arrington).[18]
Tampa Bay to Chicago. Tampa Bay traded its sixth-round selection to Chicago for quarterback Brian Griese.[19]
Chicago to Tampa Bay. Chicago traded its sixth-round selection to Tampa Bay for offensive guard Dan Buenning.[20]
Dallas to Detroit. See above first-round trade for Roy Williams.
Seventh round
Jacksonville to Tampa Bay. Jacksonville traded its seventh-round selection in 2009 and its second-round (No. 58: used to select wide receiver Dexter Jackson) and fifth-round (No. 158: traded to Chicago and used to select tight end Kellen Davis) selections in 2008 to Tampa Bay for Tampa Bay's second-round selection in 2008 (No. 52: used to select defensive end Quentin Groves).[11]
Washington to Minnesota. Washington traded a seventh-round selection to Minnesota for defensive end Erasmus James.[21]
Cleveland to Miami. Cleveland traded its seventh-round selection to Miami for cornerback Travis Daniels.[22]
Carolina to Miami. Carolina traded its seventh-round selection to Miami for quarterback Josh McCown.[23]
Tampa Bay to Pittsburgh. Tampa Bay traded its seventh-round selection to Pittsburgh for offensive lineman Sean Mahan.[24]
Conditional/Undetermined
Atlanta to Denver. Atlanta traded a seventh-round selection to Denver in return for cornerback Dominique Foxworth. The selection can rise based on playing time.[25]
Baltimore to Tampa Bay. Baltimore traded a late-round selection in 2009 as well as a conditional selection in 2010 to Tampa Bay for defensive end Marques Douglas.[26]

Don't get mad at me for being lazy, but do the Jets have 2 second round picks this year? I can't find the info. Thanks
The Jets have their second round pick and if the Saints resign Vilma before the FA deadline than we will have there's too.
any chance that actually happens?
With the Jets, who knows.

Answer: Nothing
Dewayne Robertson played in roughly 50 percent of the defensive snaps last season, well below the 65 percent threshold that would have triggered a trade. The Broncos had acquired Robertson last April in return for a conditional draft pick based on playing time. One condition was if Robertson played in less than 65 percent of the defensive snaps, the Broncos didn't have to compensate the Jets

Here's how the Vilma thing will likely play out. As of now, we get the Saint's 3rd round pick and give up a 4th. He had enough playing time for us to get a 2nd round pick, however the deal stipulates that the Saints need to sign him to longer term deal by 2/27 for that to kick in.
Making it more complicated is that the Saints traded their 2nd round pick to the Giants for Jeremy Shockey. If the Saints have to give us their 2nd round pick, they would then need to give up their 1st to the Giants. Smart money is on them whispering into Vilma's ear hang until until after the 27th, so that that they don't lose both their 1st and 2nd round picks.

Several players who have been presented with this dubious honor have nevertheless succeeded in making the team that drafted them, with significant contributions on the field. Bill Kenney, who won the 1978 Mr. Irrelevant award under special circumstances (see below), was even honored with an invitation to the Pro Bowl in 1983. Special-teams player Marty Moore became the first Mr. Irrelevant to play in a Super Bowl, with the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. Jim Finn was the starting fullback for the New York Giants. Mike Green has been a starting safety for the Bears and Seahawks, and is currently a backup for the Redskins.
Which means that draft pick could be the reason that we win the Super Bowl (2 words) in 2010. So Ha!

There's a lot of free agents out there. But I wanted to talk about some of the top targets in free agency. One of the areas the Jets were weak in last season was in the secondary. So there would be nothing wrong with picking up a good corner back or safety. If Rex Ryan intends to incorporate any of his 46 schemes into the Jets defensive strategy, we're going to need a powerful run stopper. One of the top corner backs about to hit free agency that has not been tagged as of this post is Nnamdi Asomugha of the Raiders. He was tagged last year for $9.98 million and if the Raiders intend on tagging him again, they'll be looking at a cool $12 million. Al Davis is not sure who to tag right now but its between their kicker and Asomugha (both of which were selected for the pro bowl this year). Then there is Safety Oshiomogho Atogwe with the Rams. He had 5 interceptions last year and eight the year before. All he does is intercept passes and force fumbles. He would be a great pick up for the Jets. Next we have LB Terrel Suggs with the Ravens. Based on things he's said, the Ravens will figure out a way to keep him. Someone I think might not be welcomed by the fans but a guy with talent is DE Julius Peppers. I read today that he has no interest in staying with the Panthers. I don't know where he wants to go but he has said he definitely wants a team that runs the 3-4 defense, a system where he believes he will show case his talents. In 2008 Peppers had 14.5 sacks and 5 forced fumbles. And that was in a 4-3 defense which he doesn't like to play in. Will the Panthers tag him? I don't know but it will cost them $16.683 million if they do. On offense, I think we've talked the QB situation to death so I'll leave that alone. But how about WR TJ Houshmandzadeh from the Bengals. One of the premium free agents about to hit the market. He's averaged 8.3 TD's over the last three years and 1042 yards. Recent reports suggest that the Bengals will not tag the Housh but if they do it will cost them $9.98 million.
Basically I only talked about a couple of players that I think would bring something amazing to the team but they are all a long shot and premium players at their respective positions. But any one of them would compliment our weaknesses from last year.

He was a shutdown CB once. But I haven't heard him called that in 3 or 4 years.

The combine kicks off with media day, and that's what today was all about. Rex Ryan had his own Jets podium where he spoke for about 15 minutes. He was flashing jokes and commanding the stage, just like he did at his first press conference as the new Head Coach of the Jets. When I get more info, I'll get back to you.

Update: here are some key statements from his press conference.( I have para phrased his statements so that you could understand what he was saying without hearing the questions that he was asked)
We're going to have a physical football team
I won't talk about free agents because I want to keep our draft picks (tampering rules)
I believe the Jets staff is the best staff in the NFL football league
Bill Callahan is the premium offensive line coach in the NFL
Mike Westhoff, I can't believe his resume. Fortunate he wanted to stay. Keep him, keep him, what ever we do keep him.
I'm a lot more confident because of the abilities of these men
Confident in his three QB's
Clemens almost beat us in that Baltimore game
Brett Ratliff put up some great numbers in the pre season. Put up a QB rating of 122.5. If he can do that in the regular season we can win a lot of games.
Eric Ainge has the size, great in college
It's definitely an open competition
Would I bring in a veteran QB? Well I did. I brought in Matt Cavanaugh, 16 years plus experience and two Super Bowls.
Our team is pretty well set over there. That's a pretty good foundation.
I'll have the Jets defense like Baltimore's by next year.
The mentality and the style that we'll play with will get them there.
We'll have a defense that our fans can be proud of.
About the combine: I look for a fan of football.
I want physical tough passionate people. That was the formula at Baltimore and that's what we're going to try to do with the Jets.
You're wrong to look at the super athlete guys if they don't have the passion

Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State
http://i.tsn.com/i/photos/20090219/108835.jpg
With the release of Chris Baker at tight end, the Jets will probably be interested in talking to Oklahoma State TE Brandon Pettigrew. With the Buffalo Bills (11th pick) and Philadelphia Eagles(21st) both looking for a TE, the Jets fall somewhere in the middle. Brandon Pettigrew of Oklahoma State emerged as the No. 1 tight end prospect heading into the NFL Scouting Combine.
“I know I’m faster than people think I am, so I’m looking to run a great 40-yard dash here,” said Pettigrew, who measured 6-5, 263 pounds Thursday.Asked what he expected to run in the 40, Pettigrew laughed and said, “Four-four. I’m telling myself I’m going to run a 4.4.”

Because he was re-signed during free agency we get no picks ... right ?
I thought the deal was ... if he played 80% of the snaps and resigned we get a second or third rounder. But since he was resigned as a free agent doesn't that negate the deal completely?

New Orleans traded its third-round selection to the Jets for linebacker Jonathan Vilma. That selection rose from the fourth round because of Vilma's playing time in 2008. However the contract stipulated that the Saints had to re sign Vilma before Feb 27th for us to get a 2nd round pick. But the Saints gave away their 2nd round pick to the Giants when they picked up Shockey. So how could they give us a 2nd round pick that they already gave away. They can't, unless they give the Giants their 1st round pick instead which they were not going to do. So they waited until FA, then resigned him.

If they resigned him prior to free agency, we would have gotten a 2nd. Guess everyone knew how that was going to turn out, regardless.

I dont know its just a thought but considering that the past 2 off seasons we have addressed the D. How about with the 17 pick we think about a WR maybe Hakeem Hicks if anyone watched NC this year he is a play maker and is what we need to replace LC

03/05 — Just a quick hitter in the morning for you. The NFL on Wednesday released all teams' round-by-round selections in the April 25-26 draft. The Jets have six selections, with one choice in each round except for Round 5 and three picks in the first 76.
Keep in mind that the exact overall number of the selections from Round 4 on have not been determined yet due to compensatory selections. Compensatories, distributed from the end of Round 3 through the end of Round 7, are usually unveiled at the NFL annual meeting, which this year is set for March 22-25 at Dana Point, Calif.
Here is a list of the Jets' own selections plus the picks they've acquired and given up in trades:
Round Rd. No. Ov. No. How Acquired
1 17 17 Own
2 20 52 Own
3 12 76 From NO in Jonathan Vilma trade
3 19 83 To GB in Brett Favre trade
4 15 ... From WAS in Pete Kendall trade
4 18 ... To NO in Vilma trade
5 17 ... To PHI in Lito Sheppard trade
6 20 ... Own
7 19 ... Own
Late Update: I've mentioned this in response to some recent comments, but let me repeat it here: The Jets' trade with New Orleans for Jonathan Vilma began last year when the Jets received the Saints' fourth-round pick in the '08 draft. This year they get the Saints' third-rounder and send back to NO their fourth-rounder. The fours were a wash. In effect the Jets received a third-round pick in the swap.

New York Jets to hold private workout with K-State QB Josh Freeman
by Dave Hutchinson/Star Ledger Sunday March 15, 2009, 2:27 PM
As first reported in The Star Ledger last month, the Jets are very interested in Kansas State quarterback Josh Freeman. How interested? They've scheduled a private workout with him this week, according to NFL.com.
On Monday, Freeman will have a chalk talk with Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and on Tuesday, he'll work out for coach Rex Ryan, general manager Mike Tannenbaum and Schottenheimer. It's unknown where the interview/work out will take place.
Freeman, a 6-foot-6, 250-pound junior, is shooting up the charts after an impressive showing at the NFL Combine and a Kansas State Pro Day. He has a big arm and is mobile.
As I've said, I think the Jets are fully prepared to go with either Kellen Clemens or Brett Ratliff at quarterback, but if Freeman falls to them at 17th overall it's unlikely they'll pass him up.
The Jets have also shown interest in USC QB Mark Sanchez but he's expected to be long gone by the time they're on the clock.
Having addressed nearly all of their needs in free agency, the Jets will likely select the player highest on their board with their first-round pick, Quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback and linebacker are among the positions they're looking at.
Keep an eye on Illinois CB Vontae Davis although as I've reported, the Jets are concerned about some character issues.

Complete AFC East draft rundown
March 24, 2009 5:14 PM
Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham
DANA POINT, Calif. -- Now that compensatory draft picks have been allocated, we can break down round-by-round selections for each AFC East club.
We now know the seventh-round pick the Miami Dolphins sent to the Jacksonville Jaguars for Tony McDaniel was the 232nd overall choice. The Dolphins had acquired two other seventh-round picks via trade last year.
NFC West blogger Mike Sando has created a downloadable file for the entire league. Or you can find the draft order here.
The Buffalo Bills hold seven picks:
* 11th
* 42nd
* 75th
* 110th
* 147th
* 183rd
* 220th
The Miami Dolphins own nine picks:
* 25th
* 44th (from Washington Redskins in Jason Taylor trade)
* 56th
* 87th
* 108th (from Oakland Raiders in Samson Satele trade)
* 161st
* 181st (from Oakland in Satele trade)
* 214th (from Cleveland Browns for Travis Daniels)
* 237th (from Carolina Panthers for Josh McCown)
The New England Patriots have 11 picks:
* 23rd
* 34th (from Kansas City Chiefs for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel)
* 47th (from San Diego Chargers at last year's draft)
* 58th
* 89th
* 97th (compensatory)
* 124th
* 170th (compensatory)
* 199th
* 207th (compensatory)
* 234th
The New York Jets have six picks:
* 17th
* 52nd
* 76th (from New Orleans Saints in Jonathan Vilma trade)
* 115th (from Redskins in Pete Kendall trade)
* 193rd
* 228th

How come no one is talking about running back for the Jets? Thomas Jones is 31 yrs old.They need another running back to develop. I would love if they took Georgia RB Moreno if he falls to them in the 1st round. If you draft Sanchez or Freeman , then you now have 4 QB's with no experience. From what I have been reading the Jets are very high on Brett Ratliff. Did anyone think Matt Cassell would be what he was last year? He was a backup in college so he last started a game in high school before last year. No one knew that Tom Brady would be one of the best ever. And now the leauge is adjusting rules for him. My prediction is Brett Ratliff is the Jets starting QB for 2009 season opener.

With all the changes that have been made to the defense in free agency, does anyone really think that the Jets will use their first pick to fill another defensive position. Won't that be the definition of literally ignoring your offensive needs. So assuming that it will go to an offensive position, does anyone really think it will be used to fill a position that is already occupied just for the purpose of getting more depth or preparing for the departure of TJ in a year or two, when we definitely have a need at the TE and WR position that is critical for this season.
It would make no sense to me not to use pick 17 for a WR or a TE, and fill all other positions with the other picks and the old guys left in FA that you can sign for one to two year contracts.
Anyone agree?

I definitely agree. I do think that if one of the top 3 QBs (Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman) fall to us we will either draft 1 or trade the pick to a team that covets them.

Tyson Jackson is the only defensive player around the 17 that Ryan would go for over a WR imo
