he went 15-33 in his 3 season there, not even Kansas are patient enough

It was just on ESPN. Shanahan was mentioned as a replacement.

I liked Herm, and was sorry to see him go, but the way he snuck out of Giants Stadium, packed his bags quietly and took a night flight to K.C. didn't make me happy.

Now that would be interesting. Shanahan working with Scott Pioli, in his old division. You think those two KC vs Denver games won't bring some drama?

Is this a good thing or a bad thing, or should I just stick with not caring at all?

I like living through the drama of other teams. AFC west could end up being somewhat reinvigorated. San Diego, Denver and a Shanahan led KC could be interesting.

True, but drama without the emotional attachment is entertaining. Drama with the Jets is gut wrenching!

the sign of a true fan! I take every Monday after a home game off. Not that I'll be hung over or anything, but just not sure how miserable I'll be. lol

My girlfiend loves football, she is a pats fan. Unless the pats are playing the Jets, she routes for the Jets just because she doesn't want me to be in a bad mood:D
It might go on for days depending on the score.

My oldest daughter, now 7, had one of her first words spoken at age 2, be a term that rhymes with "duckit". Not a word you want your kid to learn from you. She wandered in during a Jets game. We did something particularly stupid, and I uttered that horrible profanity. She was like a little robot repeating it over and over. Wife was not happy. I reminded her that it was her job to keep her out of the room. Didn't fly, but made me feel better for a few. :)

NFL Network saying Shanahan not going to KC. Arizona Off Coordinator high on their list.

He'll never top Parcells or Belichek's departure though.

Herm has not yet learned what the cycle is in the NFL.

But he's a good player's coach, and there's always room for that in the NFL.

He needs to work with 'near-equals' who are more ruthless than he is, and that will provide him with the coverage to get where he needs to reach for success.

I hope he finds the right "partner".

I'm with ya buddy. My wife was raised a Giants fan. Over the last 8 years I've been able to convert her. Her dad was and still is not happy.

You play to win the game, or in Herm's case, you coach until you're fired :-)

How can you quit when you've been fired?

Adam Schefter said the decision was mutual. Herm will not be coaching next season and Shannahan is not talking to the Chiefs.

After his records, Head Coaching might not be his thing.

He wake up earlier than us, so "motivation alarm clock", and he becomes one of a kind.

I think Mean Green meant that Herm should just give up coaching all together.
I would

He'll be entertaining on some network's pregame show next year. He's nothing if not entertaining.

my opinion of Herm , and I said this years ago when I first started disliking him as Jet coach, is he would be better suited as a college coach. I think he's work better with the young kids. Fatherly image kind of guy.

Good point. I know he is still doing his football camp each year in Monterey for low income kids. He does a lot for the community. I bet he takes a year off and shows up on ESPN next year. Maybe head back into coaching in 2010.

He played in the pros, probably want to stay in the pros. I did hear something about him doing TV though.

SonnyWerblin

I definitely can see him doing some TV. He's talkative and I'm sure has plenty to say. I just see him as a collegiate kind of guy. Look at the success of Pete Carroll in college. Maybe being at USC is what made him a good coach, who knows, but he seems to fit in well. As opposed to Charlie Weis. Not what I see as a college guy.

And, I don't think he'll get another NFL head coaching shot anytime soon.

Herm can motivate, that's his strength as a HC. If he had talent to work with, he would have been a successful HC.

Herm's a good man and I wish him the best.
As far as him coaching the Jets, he leveled out and never really established an identity for the team. The way he left was a little odd but he was bound to be let go anyway. He really had a tough job to do in KC and to his credit he started a lot of rookies and younger guys. I really believe that towards the end of 2008 KC made big strides in how they were playing. The win-loss record doesn`t show it but they were not an easy team to beat.

It's too bad that he didn't get the opportunity to see his work pay off.

The Chiefs have a lot of good young players and whoever gets that job will benefit from Herm's willingness to let the young guys take their lumps.

Not to defend Herm Edwards but he wanted to rebuild the Chiefs in 2007 but management felt there was still enough there to make the playoffs again. So they let him do it in 2008 and they had the youngest team in the league. Too bad for him his only supporter (Carl Peterson) quit on him mid-season (like Herm did to the Jets!)
Herm is agreat motivator but he is not a good X's & O's guy. For him to have any success as a HC he needs to have strong good coordinators.
Right now the networks are probably scrambling to see who can sign Herm to their pregame show. Maybe the NFL Network where he can yap 24/7 - that's a job made for Herm!

I would like to see Herm get a job somewhere, but broadcasting would be great for him.
He's a very positive guy and I'm sure will turn this around. Truthfully, I wish I had his faith and positive attitude everyday...that take a lot of discipline to do and he lives it every single day.

He'd really be a good college coach. He's the kind of a guy that could give Pete Carroll a run for his money and would be a positive influence on kids. Maybe he should replace JoPa at Penn State.
