Mike Pereira is the National Football League's Vice President of Officiating since 2001. He was also a game official in the NFL for two seasons (1996 and 1997) as a side judge on the officiating crew headed by referee Mike Carey.
Pereira appears on the NFL Network show, NFL Total Access, during the "Official Review" segment, to discuss key calls made during the previous week's games with host Rich Eisen every Wednesday during the season.
In a Conference Championship edition of "Official Review" on January 21, 2009, Pereira confirmed that he would be retiring from the position of Vice President of Officiating after the 2009 NFL Season.
Officials, while reviewing a coach's challenge, will call Mike Pereira from the booth for a clarification of the rules (Which is why they take forever sometimes). Also, he has the last say over other questionable calls made during the past week.
We all know how confusing the NFL rules can be, especially when two different aspects of a rule happens simultaneously. Now we will have another person making these clarifications and having the final word. I feel this may cause some changes where interference calls, personal fouls and protections where the QBs and the Kickers are concerned.
I could be wrong, what does everyone think?
